🗓️ Release date:
This release of Page Branching adds a choice of who can approve merges, an optional limit on branches per page and a hint for anyone who edits a page that has open branches.
Who can approve merges
-
When merges require approval, space administrators now choose who can approve them.
-
New option: everyone who hasn't edited a branch can approve it, without an approver list.
-
Anyone who edited the branch, its creator included, cannot approve it and is told why.
-
When submitting, search for any Confluence user to notify; people who edited the branch are left out.
-
Spaces that already use approval keep their named approvers, so nothing changes for them.
Branch limit per page
-
Space administrators can limit how many active branches a page may have.
-
Merged, deleted and trashed branches don't count, and existing branches are never removed.
-
At the limit, Create Branch is disabled and points to the page's existing branches.
-
The limit applies to everyone, space administrators and the Working Copy agent included.
-
The branch list now says how many branches of a page you can't open.
-
On the Branches page, space administrators can find and remove branches whose page no longer exists.
Hint for pages with open branches
-
An optional space setting shows a hint to anyone who edits a page that has open branches.
-
The hint links each branch, names its creator and suggests making the change there instead.
-
It never blocks editing: dismiss it, and it returns the next time the page is edited.
-
Branches the editor can't open are counted in the hint without being named.
-
Live docs have no separate edit mode, so they show the hint whenever they are open.
Compatibility notes
-
Merge approval: a branch whose original page changed after its last update now has to be updated before it can be submitted for approval.
