If some of your links live behind a firewall (for example an intranet portal, an internal tool, or a company website that only allows known traffic), the link checks may come back as unverifiable even though the pages work fine in your browser. Don't worry - this is usually just your firewall doing its job.
How Broken Link Detection works
When you run Check link status, the actual link checks are performed by our backend service - not by your browser. This means your firewall sees requests coming from our infrastructure, and it may block them unless it knows about us.
What to allow in your firewall
To make sure link checks can reach your systems, allow incoming traffic from this IP address:
-
IP address:
54.166.64.241 -
Protocols: HTTPS and HTTP (standard ports
443and80) -
Request types:
HEADandGETrequests only - we never send data to your systems -
User agent:
LinkManagement-URLChecker/1.0 (Confluence App)
This is the same kind of change your network team likely already makes for other tools, so feel free to forward this page to them.
Good to know
-
Our checks are read-only: we only look at the response status of a link to decide whether it is healthy or broken.
-
Broken Link Detection is available with the Advanced edition of Link Management.
-
Links that cannot be reached are marked as unverifiable rather than broken, so a firewall block will never make a working link look broken.
