Is Diary available on Confluence Cloud?

Yes! This space documents Diary for Confluence Cloud. If you are on Server or Data Center, see Diary (Server/DC).

How is Cloud different from Data Center?

Cloud runs as a modern Forge app. The workflow you know is all there — insert the macro, write entries from view mode, edit and delete them in place, two styles, the same macro parameters — rebuilt for the new Confluence editor. The differences that remain are listed in Known Issues and Differences from Data Center.

Do I need to open the page editor to write an entry?

No — that is the whole point of Diary. You insert the macro once in the page editor, and after that every entry you add, edit, or delete happens in view mode.

Where are my diary entries stored?

Inside the page, in a four-column table within the macro — exactly as on Data Center. There is no separate app database and no content properties. That means your existing search, permissions, backups, and audit tooling already cover every entry, with no surprises.

Who can create, edit, or delete entries?

Anyone with permission to edit the page. Users who can only view the page see the entries but no editor prompt and no Edit or Delete buttons. See Permissions and Who Can Write.

Can someone edit an entry I wrote?

Yes. Page edit permission is the whole test — there is no "own entries only" mode, just as there was none on Data Center. Anyone who may edit the page may change any entry, and every change is recorded as a page version showing who made it.

Are my entries gone forever if I delete them?

No! This is one of the many good things about storing entries as page content. Every delete adds a new page version, so you can go to page history and revert the page to bring an entry back.

Can several people write in the same diary at once?

Yes. Each write re-reads the page, applies the change, and saves, so two entries written at the same moment do not overwrite one another. If a page changes underneath a write in a way that cannot be reconciled, Diary leaves your entry alone and asks you to reload and try again.

How can I change the date format of my Diary?

You cannot, and this works differently from Data Center — where the date format came from Confluence's General Configuration. Diary for Cloud writes each entry's date in the reader's own language and conventions, so the same diary reads naturally for everyone looking at it.

The time format is configurable: pick 24-hour or 12-hour with the Time Format parameter.

Can I put more than one Diary on a page?

Yes. Each macro keeps its own entries and its own parameters, so one page can carry a decision log and a status log side by side without the two mixing.

Can I share a link to a single entry?

Not on Cloud. On Data Center, clicking an entry's date produced an anchor link straight to that entry. Cloud has no equivalent, and one is not planned — a macro on Cloud cannot read the page URL it was opened with, so a reader's Diary has no way to tell which entry a link was meant to point at. Link to the page instead.

Can I add a task list or a macro to an entry?

Not from the Diary editor — its toolbar does not offer them. You can place one into an entry through the page editor, and it will render in the diary. Data Center had a comparable limitation: task lists could not be added from its Diary editor either.

What is the "Properties" column I remember from Data Center?

Data Center's entry table had a fifth column called Properties, held open for a possible future feature. It was empty in every row, so Diary for Cloud does not have it — the entry table has four columns: Date, Time, From, and Content.

What happens to my diaries when I migrate from Data Center to Cloud?

Your pages migrate with their content intact, but the diaries do not arrive as working Cloud diaries — the two apps have different macros, and the Cloud macro does not recognise a Data Center one. The entries are still in the page and still readable; they are just no longer interactive. We recommend deciding what to keep before you migrate. Which languages does Diary support?

English and German, following each user's own Confluence language setting. One exception: the toolbar of the entry editor is Atlassian's own component and stays in English.

Does Diary send my content anywhere?

No. Diary is a Forge app that talks only to your own Confluence site. Entries are page content, so they live wherever your Confluence content lives, and there is no third-party service involved.
